A difference-maker on both ends of the court as a scorer, rebounder and shot-blocker for the University of Mary men’s basketball team, Marc Hawley led the Marauders to their most recent conference championship and earned All-American honors for his efforts.

A native of Derby, England, Hawley attended Southeast Community College in Beatrice, NE, before Marauders head coach Jim Feeney brought him to campus in 1995. The impact was immediate. An incredible shot-blocker, Hawley was a presence on both ends of the floor. He averaged 15.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in his first season to earn NDCAC first-team All-League honors and team Most Valuable Player recognition. In year two, the Marauders improved to 18-9 overall and earned a share of the NDCAC league title with a 9-3 record. It was the Marauders third conference title in program history. Named an NAIA third-team All-American, Hawley was also the Bismarck Tribune NDCAC Player of the Year after averaging 15.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, making 52 percent of his shots and 72 percent of his free throw attempts. Despite playing just two years for UMary, Hawley remains the Marauders all-time leading shot blocker with 108.

Hawley, who earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in 1997 and graduated from the University of Mary with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1998, is the son of Ian Hawley and Janet Jones. After playing basketball professionally in England and Belgium, Marc has been coaching Division II and III semi-pro basketball in Belgium for over a decade and runs a recycling center in Liège, Belgium, for Renewi. Living in Sprimont, Belgium, and married to Camila Sampaio, Marc is the father to Kaï and Tiago.
