A national champion and nine-time All-American, Karla (Fandrich) Wagner was a dominant force on several University of Mary women’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams that finished in the top ten nationally and seven conference championship squads.

Arriving at Mary after graduating from Richardton-Taylor High School, Wagner made an immediate impact on the Marauders squad. Four times as a freshman in the 2000-01 season she claimed NAIA All-American honors, including a runner-up finish in the 100 meter hurdles at the national outdoor championships. She had an even bigger year as a sophomore. The 2002 DAC-10 55 meter hurdles indoor champion, Wagner claimed three All-American honors after placing second in the 55 meter hurdles, 6th in the pentathlon and ran on the Marauders 4th place 4x400 meter relay team at the NAIA indoor championships. She ended the season in spectacular fashion. Following DAC-10 outdoor titles in the 100 meter hurdles, the 400 meter hurdles and the 1,600 meter relay, Wagner claimed her first national title. Competing at the 2002 NAIA outdoor championships, Wagner blazed her way to the 100 meter hurdles title in a then-school record time of 13.87. She completed the year by running on the national runner-up 4x400 meter relay squad. With her career later slowed by injuries, Wagner would win individual titles in the 100 meter hurdles and the high jump at the 2003 DAC-10 outdoor championships.

A 2005 University of Mary graduate with degrees in early childhood, elementary education and special education, the daughter of Bobbie and the late Emil Fandrich also earned a masters degree in learning disabilities from her alma mater. After completing college, Karla taught and coached for eight years in her hometown of Richardton. Now a resident of Beulah, ND, Karla is a stay-at-home mother. Karla and her husband Scott are the parents of sons Damian and Elijah.
