The University of Mary Marauders Hall of Fame
An immediate presence behind the dish from day one on campus, All-American Tanya (Guzman) Black keyed a pair of national tournament appearances for a University of Mary softball team that dominated the conference and the region in her time with the Marauders.
Â
A native of Sacramento, CA, and a graduate of St. Francis High School, Guzman transferred to the University of Mary in the fall of 2000 and quickly settled in as an impact catcher. The Marauders easily captured the new Dakota Athletic Conference title with a record of 20-1, won the region and went 1-2 at the 2001 NAIA World Series to finish the season with a record of 42-8. Guzman claimed 2nd team All-American honors, was the NAIA Region III Player of the Year and the 1st team All- DAC10 catcher.
Â
The powerful slugger led the Marauders to an even deeper run in 2002. The senior paced UMary to another DAC10 regular season title (16-2) and Region III championship before going 3-2 at the NAIA World Series and advancing to the final eight. Guzman was named to the All-Tournament team as the Marauders posted their 2nd best national tournament finish in program history. Once again Guzman was the player of the year in Region III and an All-DAC10 1st team selection. Â

The daughter of Stephen X. and Sherri L. Guzman, Tanya earned her Business Administration degree from the University of Mary in 2003 before finishing her MBA at the University of Phoenix in 2011. A resident of Elk Grove, CA, and the administrative processes manager for the Seismic Safety Commission, Tanya and her husband Frank are the parents of Miles and Josiah. Â
