The University of Mary Marauders Hall of Fame

A member of the University of Mary’s inaugural men’s basketball team in 1970, Dave Drechsler was one of the first Marauders. During that first season, Dave established himself as an outstanding scorer. He played for the Marauders for one-and-a-half seasons before transferring to North Dakota State University in the middle of the 1972-1973 season.

When Al Bortke took over the men’s program in the fall of 1973 he heard that Dave was interested in returning to the Marauder program. Dave returned and was able to play in the second half of the 1973-1974 season. During his time as a Marauder, Dave proved that he was a strong leader. Today his name can still be found in the Marauder records. He ranks third in all-time scoring (1666 points) and second on the list for scoring in a single season (691 points). Due to the fact that the University of Mary played as an independent school until 1986, Dave did not earn All-Conference and similar awards during his years as a Marauder.

Dave and his wife, Sharon are currently living in Thompson, ND. They have three children, Melissa, Kristine and Ashley.
