The University of Mary Marauders Hall of Fame
Kingston, Jamaica, gave the University of Mary one of its most accomplished track and field athletes in Dr. Kristen (Stewart) Guptill. Arriving at UMary in 2007, Guptill quickly established herself as a key contributor to the Marauders women's track and field program, helping lay the foundation for the team's success in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and NCAA Division II.
Guptill made an immediate impact during her freshman season in 2008, earning NCAA Division II All-American honors as a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished fourth nationally. Her success continued throughout her collegiate career, earning three All-American honors with additional national finishes of seventh in 2010 and fifth in 2011 in the 4x100-meter relay. Guptill also helped the Marauders capture four NSIC team championships and claimed an individual conference title in the 200 meters at the 2011 NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Her accomplishments extended beyond the track. Guptill earned multiple NSIC All-Academic honors and was recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as an NCAA Division II All-Academic honoree in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Following her graduation from the University of Mary in 2011, Guptill continued her education at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2015. She went on to complete a General Practice Residency at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. Today, she practices general dentistry in Traverse City, Michigan, continuing her commitment to serving others and improving access to dental care.
Guptill credits the University of Mary with shaping her life both personally and professionally. It was at UMary where she met her husband, Troy Guptill, developed lifelong friendships, and built a lasting relationship with legendary Marauders coach Mike Thorson, whom she considers a second father. Today, Kristen and Troy reside in Traverse City with their four children, Ella, Elijah, Mia, and Sophia.
A three-time All-American, conference champion, and outstanding scholar-athlete, Dr. Kristen Stewart Guptill's accomplishments helped establish a tradition of excellence for Marauders women's track and field, earning her a place in the Marauders Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
