PUEBLO, CO – The University of Mary men's and women's track and field teams will be well represented at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. A total of 13 Marauders athletes across 10 events will be competing this weekend. The meet will last three days – Thursday, May 22, to Saturday, May 24 – from the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, CO.

LAST TIME OUT
UMary track and field had a great weekend in Duluth, MN, at the NSIC Championships with both the men's and women's teams placing 2
nd.
Individually,
Laila Cleare won the 100m and 200m dash.
Sakena Massiah won the 400m dash.
Elizabeth Acheson won the 800m run.
The Marauders won three of the four relay events, with the men's and women's 4x400m relays claiming victory and the women's 4x100m relay winning.
For the men's team, 2
nd place is the best finish since 2019.

SCHOOL RECORDS
Many school records were broken in the outdoor season by UMary.
Tionce Walrond broke teammate
Sakena Massiah's record in the 200m dash with a 23.31 at the Yellowjackets Open. The previous record, which was set last year, was 23.55.
A pair of records fell at the Chuck Haering Classic in Colorado. Freshman
Gideon Hammah cleared a mark that had stood since 2012 in the 1500m run with a 3:53.99. Jesse Bennett owned the previous record at 3:54.04.
Elizabeth Acheson broke her own record in the 800m run with a 2:05.74. Her best time from last season was 2:07.28.

Another pair of relay records fell at the Al Bortke Open, both in the 4x100m. The men's team of

Michael Cartwright ran a 40.27. The previous record of 40.71 was set last year by largely the same group, with
Akil Howell taking Chougule's place.
The record went on to be broken later in the season by

Laila Cleare. They ran a 45.65 and broke a record that had stood since 2012. The previous record of 45.84 was held by Kristyn Nelson, Nicketa Coombs, Rikki Schmidt, Kathryn Stewart.

A pair of school records fell in California.
Gideon Hammah broke his own record in the 1500m run with a 3:52.31, beating his previous record by over a second.
He went on to break that record at the NSIC Championships with a 3:51.07.

Sakena Massiah broke a record that had stood since 2019 with a time of 3:39.79. The previous record was held by Julia Hammerschmidt, Nicolyn Brown, Abbey Zastrow, and Monique McPherson.
Raheem Taitt-Best broke his own record in the 200m dash with a 20.58 time. His previous best was 20.71, which was accomplished last year.
Michael Cartwright narrowly broke the school record in the 100m dash with a 10.34 time. The previous record, owned by Luxon Glor since 2019, was 10.35.
Laila Cleare crushed the school record in the 100m dash with a 10.29. It was previously 10.45 and was set by
Arianna Passeri last year.
Sean Erickson broke the school record in the discus with a 52.92m throw. The previous record was held by Bryan Harris since 2003.
Sakena Massiah broke her own record in the 400m dash at the NSIC Championships with a 53.78. Her previous record, which she set last year, was 54.08.
NATIONALLY RANKED
In the eighth release of the USTFCCCA Outdoor Track and Field Rankings, the UMary women's track and field team earned the 20
th spot. The Marauders have been as high as 7
th this season, which is the highest ranking for the Marauders during outdoor season since 2021.
