PUEBLO, CO – The University of Mary men's and women's track and field teams began their efforts from the NCAA Championships on Thursday, May 22. The Marauders were able to guarantee themselves a spot in Saturday's finals in one event.
The men's 4x100m relay team of
Jorgen Paulson,
Raheem Taitt-Best,
Michael Cartwright and
Xavier Ifill came away with a time of 39.97, placing 9
th in the prelims. It was just enough to send the squad to Saturday, securing a spot in the finals by just 0.17 seconds.
The women's long jump was the first event of the day to feature a Marauder. However, sophomore
Anna Bruno was medically scratched due to an injury.
The women's 4x100m relay team of
Tionce Walrond,
Sakena Massiah,
Tayen Werner, and
Laila Cleare had their day come to an unfortunately quick end. A mishap on the first exchange caused the Marauders to not finish the race.
Senior and former All-American
Hayden Von Wald placed 22
nd in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.97m.
Junior
Laila Cleare, a second-time competitor at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, repeated her result from last year with a 20
th place finish. Cleare crossed the finish line with a time of 11.65.
Senior
Morgan Hertz rounded out the first day of competition by outperforming her 22
nd seed. Her time of 1:00.74 earned her a 17
th place finish.
