DAY 1 RECAP
EMPORIA, KS - The University of Mary men's track and field team was represented by three athletes at this year's NCAA Championships and all three completed All-American outings.
Lucas Kupfer highlighted the day by getting onto the podium as a 1st Team All-American with a 6th place finish in the High Jump. He only needed one attempt to clear the bar at 2.00m, 2.05m, and 2.10m each. That efficiency separated him from the other competitors who topped out at 2.10m to stand alone in 6th place. The sophomore from Bismarck, ND, is the first Marauder to earn All-American status in the outdoor High Jump since 2019, when Shenley Allen placed 8th.Â
Sean Erickson earned a spot in the Discus finals after a 52.13m distance on his second throw. However, that remained his best throw through six attempts, and Erickson finished the season as a 2nd Team All-American, placing 9th in the nation. The junior is the first Marauder to All-American in the Discus since Andrew Dubiel placed 11th in 2017.
The Decathlon concluded with the final five events, spanning over 10 hours on Friday. The day started for
Kenny Moxey Jr. in the 110m Hurdles, where he placed 10th with a 15.20. Next was the Discus, with Moxey Jr. reaching a distance of 34.13m to place 13th. The sophomore's best work of the day came in the Pole Vault, earning a PR of 4.40m to place 9th. He then landed a throw of 48.10m in the Javelin to place 7th in the event. The day ended with the 1500m, where Moxey Jr. hit a PR of 15:10.62 to place 14th.
Overall, Moxey Jr. totaled 6,982 points to finish as a 2nd Team All-American in 9th place, just 54 points off a spot on the podium. He is the first Marauder to ever earn NCAA All-American status in the Decathlon.Â
