Vaughn Deinhart advanced to the 2025 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships finals in the javelin on Thursday before eventually placing eighth overall at the prestigious competition.
One of just 16 competitors in the javelin, the USAFT Outdoor Championships held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon are a qualifier for both the World Championships and the NACAC Championships with the top three finishers in each event becoming eligible for the championships.
Sitting in 12
th place after his first two throws and facing elimination from the competition, Deinhart unleashed a throw of 67.35 meters on his third and last guaranteed attempt to jump into eighth place to secure his spot in the finals.
Taking advantage of the extra opportunities, Deinhart posted his best mark of the day on his fifth throw with a mark of 67.57 meters.
In his lone season competing for the Marauders, Deinhart earned all-conference honors in the javelin at the 2023 Northern Sun Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a season-best toss of 55.95 meters.
Deinhart, who was also a righthanded pitcher for the Marauders baseball team, has continued to compete and develop his skills. The native of Eden Prairie, MN, earned a spot in the USATF by uncorking a career-best mark of 71.64 meters at JavFest in East Stroudsburg, PA, on July 19, 2025.
