DICKINSON, ND – The nation's 9
th ranked University of Mary women's track & field team dominated the DSU Last Chance meet as the Marauders rolled up 13 first place finishes in UMary's final competition before the start of championship season next weekend. The Northern Sun championships are set for May 13-15 followed by the NCAA championships two weeks later.
Additionally the Marauders generated three NCAA provisional qualifying marks on the day.
Lexus Lovan won the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.71 seconds to improve her national standing in the event. She bumped up to 19
th in the nation with her NCAA provisional qualifying time.
Lovan was a double winner on the day. A national provisional qualifier earlier this season in the long jump and ranked 8
th in the country, Lovan placed first with an effort of 5.74 meters. In an incredibly close finish, teammates
Arianna Passeri (5.73m) and
Cali Modglin (5.72m) finished 2-3 in the long jump as all three finished within 0.02 meters of each other.
Already ranked 2
nd nationally in the 10,000 meter run and 4
th in the 5,000 with NCAA automatic qualifying efforts in both events,
Ida Narbuvoll took on the challenge of the 1500 meter run for the first time this season. The All-American won the race in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:27.75 and ranks 19
th in the country.
Cali Modglin won the triple jump with a provisional qualifying effort of 12.13 meters, a season-best mark. She jumped up to 22
nd in the national leaderboard.
Taylor Weidner placed second (11.65m) and Passeri was 4
th (11.02m).
Ava Grimm outpaced her teammates to win the 400 meter dash, clocking a time of 58.71 seconds.
Alli McCoy (58.74) was second and
Chriss-Ann Thomas (1:00.83) finished third.
In the 800, UMary captured three of the top five slots.
Elizabeth Acheson placed first in 2:12.63, with
Grace Acheson (2:21.86) and
Courtney Dembrowski (2:22.13) placing 4-5.
Tia Horning earned the 100 meter hurdles title with a time of 14.78 seconds. Teammate
Paige Ziegler (15.01) was second and
Shantelle Rule placed 4
th (15.30).
Morgan Hertz topped the leaderboard in the 400 meter hurdles after clearing the barriers in 1:07.10.
Abigail Jones won the 3000 meter steeplechase when she crossed the finish line in 11:17.12.
The Marauders 4x100 meter relay team of Lovan, McCoy, Modglin and Grimm combined to post a winning time of 47.81 seconds.
Nicole Kramchynsky had a big day in the field events for the Marauders. She won the discus with a season-best effort of 40.89 meters, placed second in the shot put (12.09m) and was third in the javelin (35.13m).
Faith Dockter claimed the javelin title as she connected on a throw of 40.18 meters.
In addition to Narbuvoll's effort in the 1500,
Reid Shiland placed third in 4:59.17.
In the 5000 meter run,
Taleigh Adrian placed second in 19:38.91 and
Teresa Blote was third (20:16.43).
