SPEARFISH, SD – Fresh off a national runner-up finish at the NCAA indoor championships,
D'Andra Morris exploded into the outdoor season with a pair of national qualifying performances to lead the University of Mary's efforts at the 2021 Yellow Jacket Spring Open.
Morris, who finished second in the triple jump at the national championships to earn All-American honors for the third time in her career, won both the triple jump and the long jump in the Marauders first outdoor meet since competing at the NCAA championships in May 2019. The native of Kingston, Jamaica, sailed 5.83 meters in the long jump, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Morris duplicated that same feat in the triple jump, winning with a provisional qualifying distance of 12.52 meters.
Cali Modglin also had a big day in the triple jump. The junior placed second with a top effort of 11.92 meters on her third attempt of the day with what was also an NCAA provisional mark. In a busy day, Modglin additionally placed fourth in the long jump (5.53m) and 5
th in the 100 meter dash (12.48 seconds).
Making her outdoor debut for the Marauders after earning a trip to the 2020 NCAA indoor championships,
Lexus Lovan had a pair of runner-up finishes. The senior placed second in the 100 meter dash (12.06 seconds) and second in the long jump (5.74 meters).
Chriss-Ann Thomas, like Lovan making her Marauders outdoor debut after qualifying for the 2020 indoor national championships, sailed to victory in the 400 meter run. The senior placed first with a time of 57.55 seconds and the Marauders took the top three slots in the event.
All-American
Tereza Bolibruch blazed by the competition in the 100 meter hurdles, winning the event by .90 second with a time of 14.34 seconds.
Morgan Hertz crossed the finish line first in the 400 meter hurdles with a clocking of 1:04.73.
Nicole Kramchynsky claimed second in two different field events. The freshman was the runner-up in the discus (38.86m) and the shot (12.54m).
Bonet Henderson claimed a pair of top three finishes, placing second in the 200 meter dash (25.56 seconds) and third in the 100 (12.15).
Other Marauders top five finishes:
- Alli McCoy was third in the 200 (25.91) and the 400 (58.82)
- Ava Grimm placed second in the 400 (58.18) and fourth in the 200 (25.96)
- Arianna Passeri placed third in the long jump (5.61m)
- Taylor Weidner claimed fifth in the 200 (26.30) and the long jump (5.30m)
- Taleigh Adrian placed third in the 5000 (19:50.69)
- Paige Ziegler finished third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.31)
- Tia Horning claimed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.38)
- Shantelle Rule was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.41)
- Faith Dockter was second in the javelin (35.43m) fourth in the discus with a toss of 33.71 meters
The Marauders are next set to compete at the University of South Dakota Early Bird on Saturday, April 3.
