Â
JUSTIN ENGG
Named to the NABC Honors Court and the NSIC Winter All-Academic Team,
Justin Engg was a key reserve for the Marauders the last three seasons after redshirting as a freshman. The forward from Minot, ND, played in 60 games in his career and posted over 100 points and 100 rebounds with a career-best 12 points in a win over Bemidji State.
"Justin was a player of incredible toughness and determination. He was the constant teammate that was always striving to make himself and his team better. Justin was someone every player and coach could trust and count on. A four-year member of our program, nobody led in the weight room, during conditioning, or at practice better than Justin. He put his heart into making our program better and we will never be able to thank Justin enough for his attitude and effort." - UMary Head Coach
Joe Kittell
Â
CONNOR HELLEBUST
A two-year starter at guard and a three-year contributor,
Connor Hellebust graduated after the 2020 season. He finished his career with 667 points and 98 3-pointers, which ranks him 20

NOTE: Connor Hellebust was not honored at the end of the 2019-20 season as after the season he chose to graduate and not compete this season but the Marauders want to acknowledge his accomplishments and contributions to the program.)
"Connor was one of the first players to commit to being a Marauder when we first arrived here and was the first high school player from North Dakota. I will be forever grateful for Connor's belief in us and making UMary the right place for Bismarck and North Dakota kids to come and play their college career. Connor was a relentless worker and absolutely did everything he could possibly do for this program to a point where he physically wasn't able to do it anymore. I'm not sure I've been around someone who sacrificed his body more for his team. I know our program was better for having him in it and we missed having him around this year but our very happy for his success after basketball." - UMary Head Coach

NSIC NORTH PLAYOFF SCENARIOS
As we enter the final week of the Northern Sun season, here are what we think are the playoff scenarios for the NSIC North Division in a season when just the top four teams qualify for the conference tournament:
•            Only Northern State (12-0 NSIC North record) and MSU Moorhead (8-0) have secured a tournament berth. The Wolves and Dragons meet in Aberdeen, SD, this weekend. A split or sweep for NSU gives the Wolves the top seed from the North. The Dragons would have to sweep to earn the top seed, which will be based on winning percentage.
•            Five of six teams have a chance to make the postseason tournament, including UMary (4-8), Bemidji State (4-8), Minot State (4-4), Minnesota Duluth (4-6) and St. Cloud State (5-5). Only Minnesota Crookston (1-11) is eliminated.
•            UMary must sweep its weekend home series against Minot State to remain in the running for the post-season.
•            Bemidji State must sweep its weekend home series with Minnesota Crookston.
•            Should UMary and BSU both finish 6-8 in league play, BSU is believed to have an edge based on the Beavers season sweep of St. Cloud State.
•            SCSU and Minot State can earn playoff slot with one win this weekend. The Huskies and the Beavers are eliminated from the playoff if they are swept.Â
•            SCSU hosts Minnesota Duluth. Only one of the two teams will make the tournament. If UMD sweeps SCSU the Bulldogs are in and the Huskies are eliminated. If SCSU wins at least one game the Huskies qualify for postseason play and the Bulldogs are eliminated.
Â
RECORDS

th place in the divisional standings… Minot State is 6-6 and 4-4, tied for third in the NSIC North standings.  Â
Â
OPPO RESEARCH – MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

Glenn Jordan started the Marauders final 16 games of last season. The senior averaged 5.3 ppg and was third on the squad in steals with 19… sophomore
Josh Sipes proved to be a dangerous outside threat for the Marauders. Sipes, who started 16 games and played all 29 as a redshirt freshman, was second on the team with 42 treys, hitting 38.9% of his 3-point attempts. He averaged 6.6 ppg and 3.1 rpg…

NSIC, UMARY BASKETBALL COVID-19 PANDEMIC CHANGES
In order to compete safely this season during the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Mary, the NCAA and the Northern Sun have created several new policies. Here are just a few changes implemented for the 2020-21 men's and women's basketball season….
•            The 2020-21 season for Northern Sun members opened Jan. 2
•            NSIC teams will play 16 games, all against conference competition (teams normally play 26 regular season games that includes a 22-game NSIC schedule)
•            All teams will play two games against a single conference opponent each weekend (usually play two different teams each weekend)
•            All NSIC schools host home games for eight straight weeks as either the men's or women's team will play at home with the other team on the road (no men's and women's doubleheaders)
•            The NSIC will only declare North and South Division champions and not an overall champion for 2021
•            Eight teams will advance to the NSIC tournament (all teams previously made the tournament with first-round games at home sites)
•            Marauders home games are currently closed to the general public
•            Only home Marauders basketball games will air on Fox Sports 710 (follow road Marauders basketball games live video streams at www.GoUMary.com/coverage)
•            Game programs are only available online and will not be printed
•            Winter scholar-athletes will maintain their year of eligibility independent of whether they compete or not
Â
NEXT WEEK
The Northern Sun men's basketball tournament is set for Feb. 25-28 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, SD. The top four teams in both the NSIC North and South divisions will earn playoff berths.
