CROOKSTON, MN –
Cayden Redfield once again shined for the University of Mary men's basketball team on the final road weekend of the season for the Marauders. After posting a dozen points at MSU Moorhead on Thursday, the UMary senior scored 16 against the University of Minnesota Crookston in a 71-66 road loss to the Golden Eagles.
All 12 Marauders who played in the game scored for UMary with the senior from Hardin, MT, leading the charge. Redfield knocked down 7-of-11 shots from the floor, including a pair of treys. He also had a team-leading six rebounds.
Jackson Ware and
Amare Jackson also hit a pair of treys in the game and scored six points each as the Marauders hit 11 3-pointers in the game, just above their Northern Sun-leading average of ten per game.
Noah Thomas added seven points and two steals for UMary.
Trailing all night, the Marauders were down as many as 19 points in the first half before closing the deficit to ten points at intermission 43-33.
Using a 12-0 run featuring five points from each Thomas and
Parker Brodina, the Marauders (5-21 overall, 3-17 NSIC) pulled within a single possession at 63-60 with just over two minutes to play in the game. After a UMC (6-20, 4-16 NSIC) basket, Redfield scored again to keep the deficit to three points at 65-62 with 1:17 to go. UMC again came up clutch with Spencer Swanson converting a three-point play. The Golden Eagles then held off UMary by making 3-of-4 free throws in the final 16 seconds of play.
Swanson finished the game with 31 points and 13 rebounds for UMC.
A close game in most facets with both teams committing just ten turnovers and UMC holding a slight 38-34 rebounding edge, the Golden Eagles made 12-of-14 free throws with the Marauders finishing 1-for-3 at the line.
UMary wraps up its road schedule with a visit to Northern State University on Thursday, February 19. The Marauders wrap up the season with a Senior Day home game on Saturday, February 21, against the University of Jamestown.
