BISMARCK, ND – In the final game of his freshman season, University of Mary guard
Andre Austin posted a career-best 17 points, matched by
Cayden Redfield in the senior guard's final game of his Marauders career. Despite the duo's dynamic day, UMary's late rally came up just short in an 86-77 loss to visiting University of Jamestown on Senior Day.
Austin was on fire in the second half as the Bismarck, ND, native scored 16 of his 17 points after intermission as he drained a pair of treys and made 6-of-11 shots. In the first half he missed his only two field goal attempts, both treys. His second half production helped the Marauders outscore the Jimmies 48-35 in the final 20 minutes of play as UMary reduced a one-time 20-point deficit down to seven.
Additionally Austin delivered five assists and made three steals, both team-highs. He also had five rebounds.
Redfield continued his recent run of impressive play, scoring in double figures for the fourth straight game. The native of Hardin, MT, had a huge game on the offensive glass as seven of his team-leading nine rebounds were offensive rebounds. Redfield also was fouled a game-high seven times and earned eight free throw attempts.
Tshawn Bois provided the Marauders a big spark off the bench as he nearly delivered a double double. The junior from Toronto, OT, hit a team-best three treys for UMary and scored 16 points. He also finished with eight rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end. Bois hit all three of his free throws.
The Marauders (5-23 overall, 3-19 Northern Sun) held a 43-35 edge in rebounding for the game, including a 23-7 advantage on offensive boards that allowed UMary to outscore the visitors 21-12 on second chance points and helped provide a 38-32 scoring edge in the paint.
The Jimmies (14-14, 12-10) used a big advantage from deep and a more efficient night shooting the ball to pull away from the Marauders. Jamestown went 13-of-27 on 3-pointers and shot 52.9% from eh floor. UMary hit 8-of-30 treys and made 39.2% of its shots overall. The Marauders took 74 shots in the game to 55 for the Jimmies. UMary also shot more free throws but went 11-of-22 at the line to a 15-of-19 effort for Jamestown.
Noah Thomas also wrapped up his career at UMary. in his final game the senior scored five points for the Marauders.
Anthony Walters and Thomas Diew led the Jimmies with 17 points each. Ford Okehi had 13 points and eight assists. Zeke Austin knocked down four treys and finished with 12 points.
