DULUTH, MN – The University of Mary track and field team will be sending 77 athletes to Duluth, MN, for the NSIC Outdoor Championships. The meet will span three days from Thursday, May 7, to Saturday, May 9.

Both the men's and women's teams placed 2
nd at the NSIC Championships last year.
LAST TIME OUT
It was a strong Saturday for the Marauders at the UMary Last Chance meet. On the men's side,
Sean Erickson (Discus),
Logan Wentz (Long Jump),
Prithviraj Chougule (100m),
Will Mickelson (High Jump),
Jake Hettinger (Shot Put), and
Amir Graham (Hammer Throw) all picked up victories.
For the women's team,
Laila Cleare (100m, 200m),
Anna Bruno (Long Jump, Triple Jump),
Aspen Eslinger (400m Hurdles),
Anna Nasset (High Jump),
Siena Lambert (Hammer Throw),
Sydney Elsner (400m), and
Kaydee Boyce (100m Hurdles) were all victorious.
SCHOOL RECORDS
Throwers
Sean Erickson and
Siena Lambert have both broken Hammer Throw records this season. The men's record was held by Tad Harman since 2012. The women's record had stood since 2014 and belonged to Stephanie Fey. Erickson and Lambert went on to improve upon their marks.
Gideon Hammah set two school records at the Bryan Clay Invitational. He broke Jesse Bennett's record in the 800m that had stood since 2012. The sophomore followed that with a record-breaking performance in the 1500m, breaking his own mark from last year.
Kenny Moxey Jr. journeyed to Iowa and broke UMary's Decathlon record at the Drake Relays. His score of 7,086 blew away the previous record of 6,460, which was set by Kevin Ford in 1998.
Four school records fell at the final meet of the regular season.
Laila Cleare was responsible for two of them, breaking her own record in the 100m with a 11.21 second run. She then broke
Tionce Walrond's 2025 record in the 200m, finishing with a time of 23.28.
Cleare and Walrond joined
Tayen Werner and
Kelescia Downes in the 4x100m and finished with a time of 45.07, breaking the school record by 0.01 second. The previous record was held by the same group, with
Sakena Massiah taking Werner's spot last year.
Sean Erickson crushed his own record with a 55.92m Discus throw. That broke he previous best mark by over three meters.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Mark DeArmond earned his first NSIC Athlete of the Week honor after a strong performance at the Marauders Outdoor Opener. DeArmond won both the 100m and 200m races with PRs and ranked 1
st in the NSIC in both events at the time.
Kelescia Downes had a great showing at the Yellowjacket Open, earning NSIC Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in her career. She set two PRs, winning the 200m and finishing as the runner-up in the 400m with NCAA provisional times in both events.
Laila Cleare was named the NSIC Athlete of the Week after finding success in California. Cleare tallied the 11
th best 100m time in the nation at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and the 18
th best 200m time in the nation at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She also was a member of the 4x400m Relay that earned the 5
th best time in the nation.

th best in the nation and he is the first men's outdoor field athlete of the week for UMary since 2017.
Laila Cleare was named the NSIC Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after a phenomenal outing at the UMary Last Chance meet. Her times in the 100m (2
nd) and 200m (6
th) ranked top-6 in the nation, setting school records in both events. She also was a member of the school record 4x100m Relay that now ranks 12
th in the nation.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The UMary women's track and field team returned to the USTFCCCA TFRI National Rankings in the latest release, moving up 11 spots to 18
th nationally.
