DULUTH, MN – For the second year in a row, the 17
th-ranked University of Mary women's track and field team was the runner-up at the NSIC Outdoor Championships. The Marauders were the winners of 6 events, including a sweep of the relays.
Senior sprinter
Sakena Massiah was the high point scorer of the meet, earning 38 points for her team. She is the first high point scorer for UMary since Ida Narbuvoll in 2021.
Massiah's big day got started in the 4x100m relay, joining
Tionce Walrond,
Kelescia Downes, and
Laila Cleare to win the event. The squad had a time of 45.36.
The Marauders had a pair of point-earners in the 1500m run.
Kristine Kalthoff was All-NSIC with a 3
rd place finish at 4:35.34. It is her second consecutive year finishing 3
rd. Freshman
Giselle Jahner hit a PR to place 6
th with a time of 4:41.68.
Perhaps the most impressive performance for the Marauders came in the 400m dash, in which UMary took the top 3 spots.
Sakena Massiah was the victor with an NSIC Championship record and school record of 53.78. Freshmen
Tayen Werner (54.68) and
Kelescia Downes for a clean Marauders sweep of the top-3.
Laila Cleare earned her first of two victories with an 11.31 in the 100m dash.
Tionce Walrond placed 5
th with an 11.67.
Elizabeth Acheson made it to double-digit career NSIC titles in her career with a win in the 800m run, her 10
th title. Acheson won comfortably at 2:07.10, finishing over a second and a half over the runner-up.
Morgan Hertz had an All-NSIC finish in the 400m hurdles, placing 2
nd with a 1:01.24. Sophomore
Bernadette Belzer placed 7
th with a 1:03.40.
UMary was dominant in the 200m dash, taking all but one of the top-5 spots.
Laila Cleare won the event with a 23.69.
Sakena Massiah followed with a 23.87.
Tayen Werner placed 4
th with a 24.49.
Tionce Walrond came in 5
th with a 24.53.
Kendall Berg placed 7
th at 24.88.
There were 3 Marauders point-scorers in the 5000m run. The team was led by
Kristine Kalthoff, who placed 2
nd at 17:15.41 to earn her second All-NSIC finish of the day.
Andrijana Fundak had a season-best time of 17:31.01 to place 6
th.
Terez Wycklendt hit a PR at 17:39.73 to earn an 8
th-place finish.
UMary finished strong with a win in the 4x400m run.
Elizabeth Acheson joined
Tayen Werner,
Kelescia Downes, and
Sakena Massiah and produced a wire-to-wire win. The squad's time was 3:46.04.
Freshman
Anna Nasset added to the team score with an 8
th place finish in the triple jump. Her mark was an 11.32m.
