EMPORIA, KS - University of Mary women's track and field advanced to the finals of two events on Day 1 of the NCAA Championships.
Laila Cleare advanced in the 100m and the 4x100m Relay team reached Saturday's final.
Cleare was joined by
Tionce Walrond,
Kelescia Downes, and
Tayen Werner in the first track event of the NCAA Championships. The Marauders ran a 45.53 in the rain to place 7th in the prelims, securing their spot in the finals.
In the 100m, Cleare ran the 6th-fastest time of the 22 competitors at 11.62 to qualify for Saturday's finals.
Werner placed 20th in the 400m, running a 55.52.
Anna Bruno placed 14th in the Long Jump, improving her mark each attempt to finish with a 5.76m leap.
Day 2 of the national championships will feature Cleare, Walrond, and Downes running in the 200m prelims at 5:45 p.m. That trio will be joined by
Tayen Werner for the 4x400m Relay prelims at 8:10 p.m.
