DAY 2 RECAP
DULUTH, MN – University of Mary women's track and field had a strong final day at the NSIC Championships, finishing as the conference runner-up for the 3
rd consecutive year. The Marauders had four All-NSIC performances in addition to five individual titles on the final day of competition.
The day started with junior
Anna Bendish winning the Javelin title. A season-best throw of 41.66m was enough to top the podium. Bendish is the first Marauders woman to win the conference title in the Javelin since 2021. Two-sport athlete
Ellie Feeney placed 7
th with a throw of 36.67m.
Tayen Werner and
Kelescia Downes took the top two spots in the 400m. For Werner, the win completes an indoor and outdoor NSIC sweep of the 400m. Werner did so with a time of 54.33. Downes was right behind her in 2
nd at 54.55 to be named All-Conference.
Downes was victorious in the 200m for her first conference title. She ran a 23.90 and behind her were
Tionce Walrond at 24.07 in 3rd for All-NSIC honors,
Tayen Werner in 5th at 24.43, and
Savana Sanchez reaching the podium at 24.83 in 8th place.
Walrond (4
th,11.59) and Sanchez (7
th 11.91) were joined by
Mya Nishimura in the 100m Finals. She placed 8
th at 12.09.
Kristine Kalthoff capped off her excellent senior year by winning her final race, the 5000m. Kalthoff ran a 17:15.16, beating the competition by over eight seconds. This was Kalthoff's third individual title this year across indoor and outdoor after not having any going into this year.
Amber Rosemeier was victorious in the 800m for her first career individual NSIC title. The sophomore cut two seconds off her PR at 2:11.22 to win the race by 0.02 seconds. Fellow sophomore
Giselle Jahner scored with an 8
th-place finish at 2:18.13.
A huge leap was made by
Sophie Olsonawski, who was seeded 15
th in the 1500m. She cut five seconds off her PR and placed 4
th with a 4:41.83. Jahner also placed 8
th in the 1500m, with a time of 4:42.23.
Bernadette Belzer led a trio of Marauders in the 400m Hurdles, setting a PR at 1:02.11 to place 6
th.
Aspen Eslinger followed at 1:02.24 in 7
th place.
Grace Brandt came in 8
th at 1:02.75.
Savana Sanchez,
Kelescia Downes,
Tayen Werner, and
Tionce Walrond teamed up to finish 2
nd in the 4x100m Relay at 46.14.
Downes, Werner, and Walrond then teamed up with
Grace Brandt for the 4x400m to finish at 3:47.86. Both relays earned All-NSIC honors.
