DULUTH, MN – The University of Mary men's track and field team finished strong at the NSIC Championships, ascending to 2
nd on the final day of competition. It is the best finish for the Maruaders since 2019, which was another runner-up year for UMary.
UMary claimed one title on the day and it was in the final event of the weekend. The 4x400m relay team of Osvaldo and
Osiel Cano,
Xavier Ifill, and
Raheem Taitt-Best won with an NSIC Championship record of 3:11.51. The Marauders trailed Wayne State going into the final leg, but Taitt-Best ran a blistering 46.44 lap, which would be a school record in an individual 400m dash.
Gideon Hammah broke his own school record in the 1500m run, finishing 4
th with a 3:51.07. He also hit a PR in the 800m run, finishing 3
rd with a 1:51.88.
Diego Andres-Dougan had an All-Conference finish in the 110m hurdles with a 14.22 to place 3
rd. He also took part in the triple jump and placed 5
th with a 14.36m distance. This was the junior's first time competing in the outdoor conference championship.
The Marauders had two top-5 finishers in the 400m run.
Raheem Taitt-Best was 2
nd to earn All-NSIC honors with a time of 47.18. Freshman
Xavier Ifill hit a PR at 47.75 with his 4
th place finish.
Jorgen Paulson had a 5
th place finish in the 100m dash, coming in at 10.48.
Michael Cartwright, the school record holder, placed 8
th at 10.77.
Osiel Cano placed 3
rd in the 400m hurdles with a 53.64, earning All-NSIC honors.
The Marauders had a trio of point-scorers in the 200m dash.
Raheem Taitt-Best led the way in 2
nd with a 20.99.
Jorgen Paulson joined him in All-NSIC recognition with a 3
rd-place finish at 21.09.
Xavier Ifill placed 8
th with a 21.48.
In field events, junior
Cameron Brusven placed 5
th in the javelin with a 54.85m throw in his first trip to the NSIC Championships. Senior
Malakhi Stevenson's final conference meet concluded with him placing 8
th in the javelin with a 50.98m throw.
Sean Erickson, UMary's school record holder in the discus, placed 3
rd in the event to earn All-Conference honors. His 5
th throw of 51.73m propelled him to 3
rd.
Logan Wentz added to the team score with an 8
th place finish in the triple jump, hitting 13.56m.
