#13 UMary women’s track and field sets 5 provisional marks, breaks school record across 3 meets

DICKINSON, ND – It was a busy week for the University of Mary women's track and field team with two meets in California and one in North Dakota in a four-day span. The Bryan Clay Invitational lasted from Wednesday, Apr. 16, to Friday, Apr. 18, in Azusa, CA. The Pacific Coast Invitational was on Thursday, Apr. 17, in Long Beach, CA. The Blue Hawk Games were on Saturday, Apr. 19, in Dickinson, ND.

BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL

The most notable result from the Bryan Clay Invitational was the 4x400m relay team of Tayen Werner, Kelescia Downes, Tionce Walrond, and Sakena Massiah placing 3rd with a 3:39.79. That time broke a school record that had stood since 2019.

Andrijana Fundak had a big performance in the 10000m run on Wednesday, breaking 35 minutes for the first time in her career to finish 4th. The senior ran a 34:53.08 and is now 17th in the nation in the event.

Morgan Hertz had the second best Division II time in the 400m hurdles at 1:00.16, placing 7th overall.

PACIFIC COAST INVITATIONAL

Laila Cleare won the 100m dash at the Pacific Coast Invitational with an 11.56 in a field that included 2x NCAA Champion Adeyah Brewster of Minnesota State University. Cleare is now 14th in the nation in the event.

Tionce Walrond also earned a provisional time in the 100m dash with an 11.72, which is 41st in the nation. She also placed 4th in the 200m dash at 23.84.

Tayen Werner had a PR in the 200m dash with a provisional mark of 24.18, placing 10th in the event and 51st in the nation.

The 4x100m relay team of Gabriella Apelian, Walrond, Werner, and Cleare had the best Division 2 time at the meet. The Marauders placed 2nd at 45.80.

BLUE HAWK GAMES

Kendall Berg won the 200m dash with a 24.97. It is the junior's second individual win this outdoor season.

Freshman Makayla Allmaras won the 100m hurdles with a 14.62 to earn the second win of her young career.

Sophomore Anna Bruno comfortably won the long jump at 5.64m. The second best distance was 5.47m.

As a team, the Marauders placed second to the hosting Dickinson State University with 117 points.

Another multi-meet week awaits UMary track and field. The University of Minnesota Invitational is on Wednesday, Apr. 23, and the Bison Open in Fargo, ND, is on Friday, Apr. 25.
