UMary men’s track and field surges to 3rd on final day of NSIC Championships

MANKATO, MN – After ending the first day of competition in 6th place, University of Mary Men's Track and Field surged to 3rd on Day 2 of the NSIC Championships. It is the highest finish for the men in the indoor season since a 2nd place finish in 2019.

The day started with freshman Gideon Hammah breaking the school record in the mile with time of 4:12.93. The record was previously held by Derek Myers, who set the record six years ago. Hammah placed 3rd in the event to earn team points.

Diego Andres-Dougan had an interesting day. It started with a 4th-place finish in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 7.99. Later in the day, he was a wild card entry in the triple jump, an event he had not competed in since April 2024. Andres-Dougan went on to place 3rd in the event with a distance of 14.92, which ranks 27th in the nation.

Ty Allen also earned points in the triple jump with a 14.17m leap to place 6th.

The heptathlon concluded today, with Kenny Moxey Jr. finishing as the runner-up in the multi event. He had a total of 4,928 points at the end of competition, a new personal best for the freshman.

The Cano brothers, Osvaldo and Osiel, both earned points in the 600m dash. Osvaldo placed 3rd at 1:21.98 while Osiel was 7th with a 1:23.79.

Jorgen Paulson then placed 6th in a loaded 60m dash field with a 6.86. He was also in the 200m dash finals, finishing 5th with a 21.89 time.

The 4x400m relay team had an impressive showing to close out the day for the track side, finishing 2nd. The grouping of Raheem Taitt-Best, Izaak Kudrna, and Osvaldo and Osiel Cano compiled a time of 3:18.14, less than two seconds off the leaders from Minnesota State.

The 8 points gained in the 4x400m relay were just enough for the Marauders to leapfrog MSU Moorhead in the team standings in the final event of the weekend.

Jake Hettinger had a career day in the shot put, adding nearly half a meter to his personal best. The sophomore launched a 15.94m throw to place 6th in the event.
