Modglin claims pair of titles at Last Chance Meet

DICKINSON, ND – In their final tune-up before championship season begins, Cali Modgin and Anonia Genet combined for all three of the University of Mary women's track & field NCAA qualifying efforts on the day and three of the Marauders seven event titles at the Dickinson State University Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 5.  
 
Cali Modglin garnered two NCAA provisional qualifying marks on the day with career-best performances in both the long jump and the triple jump. On her third attempt of the day in the long jump, Modglin sailed 5.83 meters to place first in the event.
 
The Great Falls, MT, native also dominated the triple jump. On her first effort of the event, Modglin exploded for a mark of 12.08 meters, giving her career-best marks on both jump events and NCAA qualifying marks in both. She now ranks 24th in the country in the triple jump and 31st in the long jump.
 
Antonia Genet matched her top mark of the season to win the high jump. Clearing the bar at 1.70 meters to win the event, Genet also exceeded the NCAA provisional qualifying height. Successful on her first three attempts of the day, Genet missed on her first try at 1.65m before clearing 1.70m on her first try. Genet edged teammate Grace Conzemius, who finished second with a top mark of 1.55 meters.
 
Taylor Hestekin led a 1-2-3 finish in the 800 meter run. The senior All-American topped the field with a time of 2:12.48. Taryn Ceglowski was right behind in second (2:18.09) with Rachael Neu taking third (2:24.15).
 
The Marauders captured the top two spots in the 100 meter hurdles. A'Lena Cheney topped the field with a time of 15.08 seconds. Tia Horning was second as she cleared the barriers in 15.12 seconds.
 
Grace Acheson claimed a narrow win in the 400 meter run by .36 seconds with her time of 59.59 seconds.
 
Abigail Jones led a big effort for the Marauders in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Jones completed the event in 11:18.32 to finish first. Starlynn Costa (11:37.37) was second with Marisa Shiland placing third in 12:46.48.

After a small contingent of Marauders compete at the Occidental Invite in Los Angeles, CA, on Saturday, May 7, the University of Mary now prepares for the Northern Sun Outdoor Track & Field Championships slated for May 12-14 in Aberdeen, SD.
