Downes earns first NSIC Track Athlete of the Week honor

BURNSVILLE, MN – Following a strong outing at the Yellowjacket Open, University of Mary women's track and field sophomore Kelescia Downes was named the Northern Sun's Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

Downes was victorious in the 200m Dash with a personal best time of 23.81. She is currently 6th in the nation in the event and has the top time in the NSIC.

The sophomore also set a PR in the 400m Dash, finishing with a 54.47. Downes is 11th in the nation in that event and 2nd in the NSIC only behind All-American teammate Tayen Werner.

Downes is a three-time NSIC Champion in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays and has been All-NSIC individually twice. She concluded her freshman outdoor season last year with an All-American finish in the 4x400m Relay.

Including the indoor season, this is the sixth time a member of the women's track and field team has been named the conference's athlete of the week this year.
