VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – University of Mary women's track and field sprinters Tayen Werner and Laila Cleare both succeeded in the prelims and will compete in tomorrow's finals for their events at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Cleare came into the meet as the 14th seed in the 60m, but reached the final 8 with a time of 7.36. She earned automatic qualifier status by placing 2nd in her heat and had the 3rd best time out of all 17 competitors in the prelims. Cleare tied her own school record in the process and cut 0.07 seconds off her season-best time.

Werner placed 3rd in the initial heat of the 400m and was never on the bubble of elimination for the remaining four heats. When all was said and done, the sophomore's time of 54.01 was 6th out of 18 runners and advanced to tomorrow's finals.

Full results from Day 1 of the NCAA Championships.

Cleare will race in the 60m finals tomorrow at 3:20 p.m. Werner's 400m race will be at 4:10 p.m.
