Werner named NSIC Track Athlete of the Week for third time this season

BURNSVILLE, MN – After breaking her own school record in the 400m Dash at the SDSU Indoor Classic, University of Mary women's track and field sophomore Tayen Werner has been named the Northern Sun's Track Athlete of the Week. It is the third time Werner has received the honor this season.

The Canadian sprinter won the 400m with a time of 53.93, becoming the first runner in program history to get a sub-54.00 time in the event during indoor season. Werner is currently ranked 5th in the nation in the 400m and has the best time in the NSIC.

Werner also joined Kate Van Erp, Aspen Eslinger, and Kelescia Downes in the 4x400m, finishing as the top Division II team at the meet with a 3:44.37. That ranks 12th in the nation and is the top time in the NSIC.

The sophomore is UMary's first three-time Indoor Track Athlete of the Week winner in a single season since national champion Melissa Agnew did so in the 2012-13 season.

Werner and UMary will be home this weekend for the Marauders Tune-Up on Saturday, Feb. 21.
