GRAND FORKS, ND –
Taylor Hestekin led another strong team performance for the 18
th ranked University of Mary women's indoor track & field team. The All-American had a pair of wins at the University of North Dakota Open to lead the Marauder to the top finish among NCAA Division II teams.
The Marauders racked up 82.3 points in the 11-team event to claim third overall. UMary only trailed a pair of NCAA Division I schools, meet host University of North Dakota and runner-up North Dakota State.
Hestekin led a dominant effort for the Marauders in the mile run as UMary claimed the top three spots. Hestekin covered the distance in 5:07.08. Right behind was
Reid Shiland (5:13.14) and
Kristine Kalthoff (5:15.58).
Hestekin and Shiland also went 1-2 in the 1000 meter run. The native of Scranton, ND, won the event with a clocking of 2:59.66 with Shiland crossing the finish line in 3:10.09.
The pairing of
Arianna Passeri and
D'Andra Morris were the top two finishers in the long jump. With an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 5.69 meters, Passeri edged teammate Morris, who nailed a jump of 5.64 meters for her best mark of the day.
Antonia Genet claimed second place in the high jump with a top effort of 1.60 meters. It is her second-best mark of the season.
Cali Modgin earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump with her top mark of 11.63.
Passeri and Modglin also made the finals of the 60 meter dash. Passeri placed 4
th (7.90 seconds) and Modglin was 5
th (7.93 seconds).
In the 600 meter run, teammates
Danalee Brock (1:41.05) and
Victoria Noland-Gillespie (1:41.54) finished the race second and third, respectively.
Competing in the 5000 meter run for the first time this season,
Abigail Jones was third with a clocking of 18:16.15.
The Marauders quartet of
Danalee Brock,
Ava Grimm,
Rachael Neu and
Taryn Ceglowski ran the 4x400 meter relay in 4:02.49 to place second.
