Glor, Henry and Newell earn prestigious 2019 NSIC outdoor track & field honors

BURNSVILLE, MN – After a pair of record team performances at the Northern Sun men's and women's outdoor track & field championships, the University of Mary was honored with a trio of the top NSIC postseason honors. Luxon Glor earned 2019 NSIC Men's Track Athlete of the Year honors, Alysa Henry is the NSIC Women's Newcomer of the Year and Dennis Newell claimed NSIC Women's Coach of the Year recognition.

Glor, who also was the 2019 NSIC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, claimed the outdoor track athlete honor after winning three events at the Northern Sun Championships and finishing as the High Point Performer with 32 points.

The senior from Winnipeg, Manitoba, won the 100 meter dash (10.35 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (21.15), setting UMary records in both events. Glor also won the long jump with a leap of 7.02 meters, becoming the first student-athlete to win three individual events at the NSIC outdoor championships since 2014. Additionally the All-American was a member of the runner-up 4x100 relay team. Glor was selected to compete at the 2019 NCAA national outdoor championships in the 100 meter dash.

Glor's efforts helped the Marauders to a second straight runner-up finish at the NSIC outdoor championships and score 118 team points, the most for UMary since the NSIC championship expanded to ten teams in 2009.

On the women's side, the Marauders won their second straight NSIC outdoor championship and ninth in 13 years. UMary scored 202.5 points and won the title by 85.5 points, both program highs since the conference expanded to 11 teams in 2009.

A freshman from Belgrade, MT, Henry scored in three different events and recorded 18 team points at the outdoor championships to earn Newcomer of the Year honors. She placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.66 meters and tied for third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.36 meters to earn all-conference honors in both events. Henry also placed fifth in the heptathlon with an NCAA provisional score of 4532 points. She rounded out her efforts with a ninth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 35.55 meters.

Newell orchestrated the dominant effort by the Marauders in leading UMary to a second straight NSIC outdoor championship. It was also the Marauders third straight team championship of the season as the UMary women won the Northern Sun's cross country championship in the fall and the indoor track & field title with Newell earning coach of the year honors both times. In his second season as head coach of both the Marauders cross country and track & field programs UMary has won all six women's titles.

The Marauders won seven events and finished second in ten events to earn 21 All-Northern Sun citations plus two relays at the outdoor championships. Ranked 15th in the country, UMary will send seven student-athletes to compete in six events, including a relay, at the 2019 NCAA national outdoor track & field championships.
