ALLENDALE, MI – Making a spectacular transition from one season to another, University of Mary All-American
Ida Narbuvoll broke a school record and earned a spot in the national championships in her first race indoors this season. Competing against some of the best competition in the country, the Marauders senior won the 5,000 meter run at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open.
In the final collegiate cross country race of her career, Narbuvoll placed fourth in the nation at the NCAA Division II championships on Nov. 23 to earn All-American honors for the fourth time. In her transition to the indoor track & field season, Narbuvoll made an immediate national impact.
Narbuvoll posted a scintillating time of 16:14.33 to win the 5K run in a loaded field. The native of Narbuvoll, Norway, won a highly competitive race by 3.4 seconds and broke the UMary school record by 6.20 seconds.
Narbuvoll's time earns her automatic passage to the NCAA Division II championships, set for March 13-14, 2020, in Birmingham, AL. Narbuvoll was one of four runners to post an automatic qualifying time with 15 others registering a provisional qualifying mark.
The previous UMary record was held by national champion and All-American
Alexis Zeis with a time of 16:20.53 in 2017.
Next up for UMary is the Marauders Winter Festival, set for Saturday, Dec. 7. The meet will be held on campus at the University of Mary Fieldhouse and Wellness Center.
