MINOT, ND – Big wins early led the University of Mary wrestling team to a 21-15 win over Minot State University in the Marauders opening dual of the season. UMary opened the match with four straight wins - three by major decision and a pin by Tate Barnhardt – to roll to the non-conference victory.



Fresh off a championship at the Jimmie Open, Nate Humann rang up six takedowns in a dominating 15-6 win over Dean Arevalo at 125 to open the night. Humann never trailed on his way to a major decision. 

Down 3-2 early, Barnhardt went on the attack at 133 and held a 12-5 lead over Liam Hayden before ending the match early on a pin at 6:36. 

The Marauders built a 14-0 lead after Hunter Eckert claimed the third match in another major decision. After starting with a takedown and a near fall in the opening minutes of the 141 match, Eckert defeated Marco Antonio Ramirezlazos 12-4.

Rudy Guillen continued the Marauders early explosion with an 11-2 major decision over Tanner Crissler for an 18-0 UMary lead. Also a champion at the Jamie Open, Guillen used four takedowns and a near fall to claim the win. 

After Minot State claimed wins at 157 and 165, Austin Eichmann put the Marauders back in the win column at 174. In his first match of the season, the sophomore took control with a near fall early in the second period on his way to an 8-2 win over Parker Osterman. 

The Beavers claimed the last three matches of the night, including a narrow 3-1 win for Mitchel Eull over Dominic Tudor at 285, but couldn't match the early big wins by the Marauders. 

UMary next competes at the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Saturday, Nov. 11.
