Box Score 2 Topeka, Kan. - The University Of Mary lost to Washburn University 3-0 and beat Pittsburg State 3-1 on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Lee Arena. UMary finished with three wins and one loss for the invitational, and finished as a team in the top three in hitting percentage, kills, assists, service aces and blocks.

UMary junior outside hitter
Lauren Randall finished with a tournament high 71 kills and 10 service aces while making the 2016 All-Tournament Team.

In the first match of the day the Burnsville, Minn., native had a match high 16 kills but the Ichabods outhit the Marauders .292 - .049 in the three set match.

The Marauders lost the first set 25-14 but made the next two closer than the first. UMary had the score tied at 16-16 in the second set but after three straight attacking errors by Randall the Marauders found themselves down 19-16. UMary made a small comeback after an attack error by WU but the Icahbods scored the final point (25-23) off a Leanna Willer kill.

Heading into the third set the Marauders were quickly down 11-6 and than 22-13, however, after a
Thayna Silva kill, a Randall kill, an attack error, a service ace and another attack error, UMary was trailing 22-18. The Ichabods responded with a Erica Montgomery kill and scored the next two points to win the set and match.

Katelyn Olson lead the blue and orange in assists with 13 while senior
Janell Finkbeiner tagged on nine. Senior
Alex Brown finished with a team-high 10 digs.

The Marauders had a hitting percentage below .100 for the final two sets.

In the second match of the day, UMary beat Pittsburg State 3-1 after three Marauders finished with double-digit kills.

Randall (20),
Rachel Astrup (12) and Silva (11) all lead the way for UMary.

UMary hopped off to a fast start, winning the first set 25-16, which continued into the second set as the Marauders won 25-23 after a set winning kill by Silva.

But the third set went to the Gorillas after PSU outhit the Marauders .182 to .047 in the set. Â

The Marauders bounced back and took set four (25-22) and recorded 11 serving aces for the match.

For the first time in six years, UMary started a season off with a win and the 3-1 start for the Marauders is the best start since being a member of the NCAA.
