BROOKINGS, SD – University of Mary women's track and field had a great outing at the SDSU Indoor Classic with three records falling over the weekend. There were eight wins for the Marauders across the two days of competition.
Sakena Massiah continued her outstanding season, breaking her own school records in the 200m and 400m dash. On Friday, Massiah ran a 24.19 in the 200m dash, slicing 0.15 seconds off the record she set earlier this year. The following day, she earned a time of 54.74 in the 400m dash, which broke her record of 55.04.
Massiah was victorious in the invitationals of both events. The senior is now 15
th in the nation in the 200m and 9
th in the nation in the 400m.
Elizabeth Acheson joined Massiah on the record-breaking front. She won Friday's 800m run with a time of 2:06.62, nearly two seconds better than her previous indoor best of 2:08.48. That record was set last season. Acheson is now 5
th in the nation in the 800m run.
Tionce Walrond won Saturday's 200m invitational with a personal best time of 24.28. She earned her fifth victory of the season in the process.
In a field of 48 runners,
Morgan Hertz won the 400m dash with a personal best time of 56.92. Hertz also joined
Kelescia Downes,
Tayen Werner, and Massiah to win the 4x400m relay. The group's time of 3:44.23 puts them in 19
th in the national standings.
UMary also took home the win in the Distance Medley Relay. The team consisted of
Terez Wycklendt,
Gabriella Apelian, Acheson, and
Alyssa Becker and earned a time of 11:41.64. Like the 4x400m relay, the Distance Medley Relay team is now 19
th in the nation.
Becker won the 5,000m run with a personal best time of 16:30.86, moving up to 9
th in the nation in the event.
A group of Marauders had season-best NCAA qualifying times to move up the national leaderboard. Freshman
Tayen Werner was 3
rd in the 400m invitational with a time of 55.28, moving up to 17
th in the nation. Fellow freshman
Kelescia Downes was 7
th in the event at 56.51, earning an NCAA qualifying time and placing her 58
th in the nation.
Senior
Tia Horning continued her climb of the national rankings in the 60m hurdles with a personal best of 8.64. She placed 3
rd at the SDSU Classic currently sits in 22
nd in the nation.

MINNESOTA RESULTS
A group of jumpers participated in the Maverick Premier in Mankato, MN, this weekend.
Taylor Weidner had a season-best in the long jump at 5.75m and is now 37
th in the nation after placing 6
th in the event on Saturday.
Anna Bruno came in at 5.56m and freshman
Kennedy Marcus had a career-best jump at 5.24m.
The Marauders return home next weekend for the Marauders Tune-Up. The meet takes place in the University of Mary Fieldhouse and Wellness Center on Saturday, Feb. 22.
