GRAND FORKS, ND – University of Mary women's track and field put forth an impressive outing at the UND Open in Grand Forks, ND, placing 2nd out of 10 teams. There were five individual victories on the day and a pair of school records fell.
Those records were the 200m dash and the 400m dash, both of which were broken by Senior
Sakena Massiah. Massiah's time of 24.36 in the 200m placed her second in the event to UND's Nadia Evans. She was victorious in the 400m, taking home a time of 55.04.
The 200m record previously belonged to
Tionce Walrond, who set it last year. The 400m record was Abbey Zastrow's and had stood since 2019. Massiah is now 17
th in the nation in the 200m and 7
th in the 400m.
Kelescia Downes (56.98),
Gabriella Apelian (57.41), and
Mara Bruno (57.98) followed Massiah in order for a clean sweep of the top four in the 400m.
Freshman
Tayen Werner picked up a win in the 600m dash. She cut five seconds off her season best in the process, earning a 1:34.21. Werner has participated in three meets and has victories in all three to start her collegiate career.
Hannah Westin and
Sarah Grotberg were the lone competitors in the 5000m run. Westin crossed the finish line at 19:07.05. Grotberg followed with a time of 19:16.33.
Tia Horning won the 60m hurdles with an NCAA qualifying time of 8.80 in the finals.
Taylor Weidner earned the victory in the triple jump. Her distance of 11.67m is a new personal best for the senior. Weidner was also fourth in the long jump, reaching 5.61m.

COLORADO RESULTS
A fleet of distance runners traveled to Colorado for both the Mines Winter Classic in Golden, CO, on Friday and the CU Invitational in Boulder, CO, on Saturday.
On Friday,
Andrijana Fundak placed third in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:43.51. The distance medley relay team of
Terez Wycklendt,
Morgan Hertz,
Elizabeth Acheson, and
Kristine Kalthoff tallied an NCAA qualifying time of 12:16.94. That's good enough for second in the nation currently.

On Saturday, Acheson placed second in the 800m run with an NCAA qualifying time of 2:11.47. Her time stands as 14
th in the nation. Becker won the 3000m run with an NCAA qualifying time of 9:43.80. Kalthoff also put forth a qualifying time in the event, finishing fifth 9:55.57. Nationally in the event, Becker is currently 7
th and Kalthoff is 16
th.

Up next for the Marauders will be a trip to Fargo for the Bison Open and Multi. North Dakota State University will be hosting the meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7 and 8.
