UMary men great across the board, finish 2nd at UND Open

GRAND FORKS, ND – A slew of top-three finishes including three individual victories helped the University of Mary men's track and field team place second out of 10 teams at the UND Open on Saturday, Feb. 1.

In his first taste of action since Dec. 7, Diego Andres-Dougan put forth his best outing of the season, winning the 60m hurdles. His NCAA qualifying time of 7.99 in the finals was over a tenth of a second quicker than his preliminary time. The senior is now 16th in the nation in the event.

Raheem Taitt-Best took home the win in the 400m dash, his second victory of the season. The junior got it done with an NCAA qualifying time of 48.37 seconds.

The distance runners for UMary impressed, with Caleb Hansen making a victorious season debut in the 5000m run. His time of 15:07.14 was 22 seconds faster than the next competitor, who happened to be teammate Raine Skjod (15:29.41). Kaden Mattson (15:49.70) placed fourth in the event.

Bismarck's own Ty Allen set a new personal best in the triple jump, clearing 14m for the first time in his career at 14.02. He placed 3rd in the event.

Jake Hettinger, another Bismarck athlete, was second in the shot put with a new personal best throw of 14.80m. It's the first time he's cleared 14.50m in his career.

Hettinger (44.14m) was also third in the discus. He was right behind teammate Sean Erickson (47.94m), who finished second.

Xavier Ifill set a new personal best in the 200m dash with a 21.95 mark. He was second in the event by just 0.04 seconds.
