GAME 7 REWIND | MSU Moorhead 38 UMary 35
Time ran out on the University of Mary's homecoming hopes in a 38-35 loss to visiting MSU Moorhead in the 19th Battle for the Paddle trophy game. UMary scored the final 22 points of the game and had the ball at midfield with seven seconds to play but couldn't launch one final hopeful heave to the end zone as time expired.
- UMary opened the scoring. Abram Jopp intercepted a Dragons pass three plays into the game at the MSUM 39 and returned the ball to the Dragons 23. Xavier Brackenridge scored on a 1 yard run five plays later for a 7-0 lead at 11:23 of the 1st quarter. MSUM responded by scoring the next 24 points.
- Jordan Polo Solomon found Luke Bodine for a 12 yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter to close within 24-13. Dragons QB Jack Strand responded with a 50 yard TD run and his third TD pass of the game as the Dragons moved ahead 38-13.
- UMary then put on a show for the home crowd. With Polo Solomon distributing the ball to a bevy of receivers, the senior quarterback once again connected with Bodine for a scoring pass, this time a 5 yard aerial touchdown on 4th down. Bodine then caught a 2-point extra point conversion from Brackenridge with 7:57 to play.
- Two plays after the Marauders touchdown Tuakoi Mahe forced a fumble that was recovered by Mason Phillips at the UMary 34. Eleven plays later Polo Solomon scrambled aways from defenders before diving into the end zone with 3:58 to play and creeping within 38-28.
- A perfectly executed onside kick by Christian Jangula and recovery by Carter Henke at the UMary 46 led to the second touchdown run on the day by Brackenridge, this time an 8 yard carry with 2:04 to play and the Marauders now just trailing 38-35.
- Unable to pull off a second straight on side kick, UMary forced MSU Moorhead to give up the ball one last time when the Marauders stopped a Dragons 4th down attempt at the UMary 23 yard line with 24 seconds left to play. Using a 22 yard strike to Karsyn Jablonski to move to midfield, seven seconds to cover another 50 yards proved too high a wall for the Marauders to climb.
- Polo Solomon passed for a career-high 284 yards, completing 30-of-42 passes for two touchdowns. He also added 11 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Brackenridge ran for 70 yards and two scores and Hudsen Sheldon added another 33 yards on the ground.
- Jablonski cracked the century mark for a second straight game and third time this season with 101 yards receiving on nine catches. Bodine hauled in eight passes for 77 yards and two scores.
- Christopher Federico led UMary with eight tackles. Mahi had two tackles for loss, including one sack, forced a fumble, had two hurries and totaled five solo tackles.
- Strand passed for 253 yards and three touchdowns, completing 24-of-42 passes. He also ran for 82 yards and a touchdown. Tyson Brandt carried 14 times for 90 yards. Brady Perryman caught four passes for 106 yards and a score.
- The Marauders gained 28 first downs and generated 427 yards (305 passing, 122 rushing) on 92 plays. The Dragons had 26 first downs, ran for 174 and picked up 427 yards on 63 plays.

One of the nation's top running backs in the Class of 2019 made his NCAA debut in the Marauders win at SMSU.

In a coma for two days, forced to undergo brain surgery and eventually needing to re-learn to walk and talk, Brown attended Texas on scholarship but was never medically cleared to play for the Longhorns, though he was cleared medically to play football. After earning his degree from UT, Brown saw limited action last season at Santa Barbara City College. HEAD COACH SHANN SCHILLINGER
Former NFL player and Baker, MT, nativeÂ
Shann Schillinger leads the Marauders onto the field for his third season in 2025 after taking over as UMary head coach in 2023. A former star at the University of Montana and the 8th head coach in UMary program history, Schillinger has coached in both the NCAA Division I Big Ten and Big Sky conferences and is a Montana Football Hall of Fame inductee.
Â
Winning is a common theme throughout Schillinger's career. Between high school and college Schillinger's teams posted 100 victories and only seven defeats. A team captain, Schillinger won three state titles during his four years at Baker HS (2001-04) as quarterback and defensive back while coached by his uncle Don Schillinger, one of the winningest prep coaches in Montana history.
Â
Dubbed "the fastest man from Baker, MT," his accolades made him a highly recruited college prospect before signing on with the Grizzlies as a safety. Schillinger helped lead the Grizzlies to two Football Championship Series (FCS) title games while also earning All-Big Sky Conference honors. Twice he was honored with the Tony Barbour Award, given annually to the "player who best exemplifies outstanding practice habits and makes an unselfish contribution to the betterment of the Grizzly football team." He ranks among the best in Montana history with 257 career takedowns and 11 career interceptions.
Â
After a star-studded career with the University of Montana Grizzlies, NFL fans heard Schillinger's name called on national TV by the Atlanta Falcons in the 6th round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Drafted as the 171st overall pick, Schillinger played four years in the NFL as a safety from 2010 to 2013 with the Falcons and Tennessee Titans.
Â
Schillinger's full-time coaching career began after the NFL in 2015 as a special teams and defensive backs assistant for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. He returned to his alma mater in Missoula to coach special teams and safeties from 2016 to 2021 and served as the team's pro scout liaison.
