Former University of Mary football player
Patrick O'Connell, a linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, will become the first Marauders player to suit up for a Super Bowl when the Seahawks face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Game time is 5:30 pm in Santa Clara, CA.
O'Connell played for the Marauders in 2017 as a true freshman from Kalispell, MT. Playing in ten games at UMary, O'Connell finished the season with 33 tackles (18 solo) with 3.5 for loss. He also recovered two fumbles, including one for a touchdown in the final game of the season.
Following the season, O'Connell transferred back to his home state to play for the University of Montana. He became a 2-time All-American for the Grizzlies before signing with the Seahawks as a free agent in 2023.
After playing one game in 2023 and five in 2024, O'Connell has become a regular on the special teams for Seattle since he was signed to the team's active roster from the practice squad in late November. This season he has played nine games, totaling 14 tackles including a sack. In the divisional playoff round 41-6 win over the San Francisco 49ers he had a pair of tackles.
O'Connell was named the special teams captain for the Seahawks in Week 14 and he produced a sack and nine tackles against the Tennessee Titans.
