BISMARCK, ND – Five members of the University of Mary men's and women's track teams will compete at the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, including three conference champions and two All-Americans.
The NCAA Division II championships will be held March 8-9 in Pittsburg, KS, at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Arianna Passeri, a 2-time All-American, will compete in the long jump and triple jump. The NSIC long jump champion and 2024 NSIC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year ranks 3
rd in the nation in the long jump with a top mark this season of 6.14 meters. The senior from Rosemount, MN, is 8
th on the triple jump leaderboard with a top effort of 12.59 meters. This will be her 4
th NCAA appearance and third indoors. Passeri earned All-American honors after finishing 6
th indoors and 3
rd outdoors in the long jump in 2023.
Two-time All-American
Elizabeth Acheson will race in the 800. The graduate student from Northfield MN, set a conference record in winning the 800 at the NSIC championships and ranks 10
th with a clocking of 2:09.27 (adjusted from 2:20.76 for track size). This is her 5
th NCAA appearance and third indoors. She earned All-American honors in the 800 indoors (4
th in 2021) and outdoors (5
th in 2021).
Tionce Walrond will race in the 200 meter dash. The sophomore from Bridgetown, Barbados, earned 2024 All-NSIC honors after running her fastest time of the season at the Northern Sun championships. She is ranked 16
th with a time of 24.04 seconds (converted for track size). This is Walrond's first NCAA appearance.
2024 Northern Sun Men's Newcomer of the Year
Diego Andres-Dougan will compete in the 60 meter hurdles. Andres-Dougan won the NSIC title in the 60 hurdles with a school-record time of 7.78 seconds, breaking his own mark from the previous day. The junior from Palencia, Spain, ranks second in the country.
Raheem Taitt-Best earned a spot in two races. The sophomore from Bridgetown, Barbados, will compete in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes. He ranks 7
th on the leaderboard in the 400 (47.39 seconds) and 14
th in the 200 (21.27 seconds converted for track size). This is his second NCA appearance after racing at the 2023 outdoor championships.
The championships will be streamed live on www.NCAA.com.
A total of 540 participants, 270 men and 270 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event.
