MANKATO, MN – Impressive preliminary performances by
Diego Andres-Dougan and
Raheem Taitt-Best on opening day looks to set up the University of Mary men's track and field team for a big day two in the 2024 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The Marauders had a pair of placers on day one of the conference championships.
Hayden Von Wald placed fifth in the long jump finals, recording a mark of 7.19 meters.
The team of
Eli Hansen,
Prithviraj Chougule,
Max Lefor and
Guillermo Fregoso finished seventh in the Distance Medley, posting a time of 10:34.36.
Malakhi Stevenson (2454) and
Charles Tomczik (2409) are currently eighth and ninth in the heptathlon, with three more events scheduled for Saturday.
Multiple Marauders advanced from the preliminaries to event finals on Saturday:
- Diego Andres-Dougan finished runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles prelims with a school-record time of 7.90 to advance to the finals
- Raheem Taitt-Best moved on to Saturday after placing third in the 400, recording a time of 49.30. Taitt-Best (22.09) also advanced in the 200 after taking fifth in the prelims.
- Joseph Patchen-Mills finished sixth in the 600 prelims with a time of 1:24.53 and Berkley Munnings was eighth
The Marauders currently sit in sixth place overall with six team points.
UMary returns for day two of the 2024 NSIC Indoor Championships beginning at 9 am on Saturday, January 24.
