BISMARCK, ND – With multiple clean sweeps of the podium and seven qualifying marks, University of Mary women's track and field won the Mike Thorson Open at home to start the indoor season.
Laila Cleare and
Tionce Walrond began their seasons in impressive fashion, clearing NCAA qualifying times in both the 60m and 200m dashes each. Cleare, UMary's Track Athlete to Watch, won the 60 (7.54) while Walrond claimed the 200 (24.57). It was a clean sweep of the top-five in the 200 for UMary, in fact.
Tayen Werner,
Morgan Hertz, and
Mara Bruno followed Walrond and Cleare.
Werner was victorious in the 400 with an NCAA qualifying time of 56.68. Hertz,
Gabriella Apelian, and
Mara Bruno completed a sweep of the top-four for the Marauders.
Jerrica Pachl won the high jump with a height of 1.67m. That jump cleared NCAA qualifying standards.
Taylor Weidner, UMary's Field Athlete to Watch, started her season with a win in the long jump. Her distance of 5.72m won the event and hit an NCAA qualifying mark, with teammate
Anna Bruno in second with a personal record of 5.65m.

Up next for the Marauders will be a trip to Fargo on Friday, Dec. 13. The team will be taking part in the Dakota Alumni Classic hosted by North Dakota State University.
