FARGO, ND – It was a successful day at the Dakota Alumni Classic for University of Mary women's track and field.
Tionce Walrond and
Tayen Werner won their individual events, while
Laila Cleare improved her national ranking in the 60m dash.
The first event of the day was the 60m dash, and Cleare came into the meet ranked 14
th in the nation in the event. Earning a new personal record with a time of 7.47, she moved all the way up to 6
th in the nation. She was, however, just 0.03 seconds off of the front-runner of the race, Shavante Roberts of Minnesota State University – Moorhead.
Walrond bested a field that featured seven Division I runners in the top 10 in the 200m dash. While Walrond's time of 24.66 was not her best of the season (24.57), it was more than enough to claim her second win of the year in as many meets.
The 600m race consisted of six Marauders and an athlete from Augustana University.
Tayen Werner, a freshman from Canada, earned her second career victory with a time of 1:39.58 after winning the 400m dash at the Mike Thorson Open.
Werner was joined by
Mara Bruno,
Gabriella Apelian, and
Morgan Hertz for the 4x400m relay. Their time of 3:54.00 was enough for second place and was just 0.23 seconds off of the pacing North Dakota State team.
