BISMARCK, ND – University of Mary Head Swimming and Diving Coach
Ryan Evans has resigned his post for an NCAA Division I coaching opportunity. Just the third head coach in Marauders program history, Evans joins the University of Kansas of the Big 12 conference as an assistant swim coach.
In his lone season at UMary, Evans coached senior
Victoria Murillo to NCAA Division II first team All-American honors, the first time a Marauders swimmer had accomplished this feat. Murillo, who returns next season, also became both the Marauders first College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America and Northern Sun Swimmer of the Meet after winning four conference championships in 2023.
During the 2022-23 season the Marauders captured four titles and four all-conference honors at the 2023 NSIC championships while placing 6
th overall. Five Marauders earned CSC Academic All-Region honors, five claimed NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction recognition and ten were named to the 2023 NSIC Spring All-Academic Team.
"I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to be the head coach of swimming and diving at the University of Mary," said Evans. "I truly enjoyed working with an outstanding group of scholar-athletes. It was a difficult decision to leave such an amazing place.
"My family and I would like to thank the University of Mary and the Bismarck and Mandan communities for being so welcoming and supportive. We will always remember our time here. With the hiring of Cooper Jones, the Vision 2030 project, and the Greatness through Virtue athletics strategic plan, I do believe the future of UMary athletics is bright. Go Marauders!"
A search for a new UMary head coach for swimming and diving is underway.
