INDIANAPOLIS – A week of impressive performances for
Victoria Murillo at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving championships has come to a close. After breaking a school record, setting two personal bests and becoming the first University of Mary swimmer to earn first team All-American honors, Murillo concluded her efforts competing in the longest race of the 4-day meet and again improving on her pre-meet seeding.
Swimming in the 1650 yard freestyle, Murillo raced in the morning session of the timed finals and completed the marathon event in a time of 17:32.24 to place 27
th overall. She entered championship week 30
th on the leaderboard.
Over the course of four days, Murillo posted a personal-best time of 10:12.88 in the 500 free to place 19
th (six slots above her pre-meet seeding of 25), just missed a personal-best in the 200 by .5 seconds while placing 27
th (seeded 30
th), and became the 1
st Marauder to swim in an "A" section final and earn first team All-American honors with an 8
th place effort in the 500 free. The Cancun, Mexico, native placed 5
th in the preliminaries with a school record and personal-best time of 4:54.00. She was 30
th on the pre-meet leaderboard.
The Marauders will finish 31
st in the team standings with 11 points.
