WEST FARGO, ND -
Victoria Murillo shined bright once again Friday night, claiming her third 2023 NSIC Championship for the third day in a row. The graduate senior from Cancun, Mexico won the 500 yard freestyle in near record time of 4:58.55. Murillo previously won the 1000 free on Wednesday night and the 200 free Thursday.
Murillo's winning time was just two seconds shy of the NSIC record 4:56.55, which she set at the 2021 NSIC Championships. She also hit her third NCAA B standard this week by swimming under 5:04.82. Friday night's gold medal is Murillo's tenth in her storied career at the NSIC Championships.
Following Murillo's third 20 point victory of the week, the Marauders later closed the night with a pair of team successes in the 800 yard freestyle relay. The Marauders team of

Michaela Desmond,
Allie Elliott, and
Keely Lacina finished 11th-place with a final time of 8:04.62, earning 12 team points for the Marauders. UMary earned 4 more points from their B heat team of
Teresa Cavanaugh,
Breanna Lund,
Sarah Towey, and
Mikayla Brackin as they swam for 8:20.35 earning 15th place.
UMary enjoyed more team success in the 200 yard butterfly finals.
Jordn Wolsky swam the 9th best time in the 200 fly prelims, qualifying for the finals with a 2:14.95 mark. Wolsky would later beat this time with 2:14.42 in the finals, earning the Marauders 9 points and also racing the best time in the B heat.
Mariapocs Ruiz Martinez earned the Marauders 2 more points by placing 15th overall with a time of 2:21.78.
Mikayla Brackin qualified for the C heat finals, finishing the 200 fly in 2:23.45. Both Ruiz Martinez (2:20.42) and Brackin (2:22.13) hit their season bests in the prelims.
Murillo earned the fastest preliminary time for the 500 free in 5:05.45.
Sarah Towey finished the 500 free prelims with a season-best time of 5:37.00, beating her previous time by 5.60 seconds.
Keely Lacina also swam a personal best of 5:48.80 in the 500 free prelims.
Teresa Cavanaugh qualified for the finals in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:00.19. Cavanaugh would later beat this time with 59.42 in the 100 back finals, a season best for the freshman.
Korie Riely swam the Marauders best time in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:10.54.
Rylie Webb and
Elle Holland were just behind with 1:11.61 and 1:14.86 finishes.
The Marauders entered day three sixth in the team standings with 123 total points. They kept hold of their standing after gaining 47 points in five events, amassing 170 total through the first three days.
UMary Swimming looks to finish the NSIC Championships strong on Saturday. The prelims for the 100 IM, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, and 1650 Free will begin at 10 am, with the finals for those events and the 400 Free Relay beginning in the final evening session at 5:30 pm.
