Marauders Claim Ten Titles in 2nd Place Finish at Dragon Invite

WEST FARGO, ND - The University of Mary Swimming team (3-1) finally dove back into competition for the first time in almost two months on January 13th and 14th. Numerous individual victories plus four relay victories out of five propelled the Marauders to a 2nd place team finish at the Dragon Invite.

"I am very happy with the team's performance at the Dragon Invite," said head coach Ryan Evans. "We came into the meet off a challenging block of training, so the swimmers were tired heading into the weekend. Despite this, we won four out of five relays, had six individual event wins, and finished 2nd in the team standings.

"This weekend is going to give us confidence heading into our final phase of the season. I am looking forward to a couple more weeks of quality training and then we will start resting for our conference meet. I know the swimmers are excited to start their taper and swim fast next month at the NSIC Championship."

The two-day meet began Friday night at the Nemzek Hall Pool. In the very first event, the Marauders made a quick impression, winning the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Michaela Desmond, Victoria Murillo, Jordn Wolsky, and Breena DeLegge with a time of 1:52.62. The same quartet later in the evening won the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:40.64.

The impressive squad of DeLegge, Wolsky, Desmond, and Murillo finished second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.07) on Saturday. The Marauders not long after claimed their third relay victory of the weekend with the team of Desmond, Rylie Webb, Wolsky, and Murillo in the 400 yard medley relay (4:12.51).

The Marauders displayed their exceptional chemistry once more in the invite's final event Saturday evening, winning the 800 yard freestyle relay (8:12.10) with the team of Wolsky, Desmond, Korie Riely, and Murillo.

In the fourth event on Friday, Victoria Murillo claimed her first of three titles at the Dragon Invite by winning the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:50.98. The graduate student from Cancun, Mexico then led Saturday morning off by claiming the 200 yard freestyle in 1:56.34.

Later Saturday, Murillo won the 500 freestyle in 5:14.26, and claimed runner-up in the 100 yard freestyle (54.27).
