SPEARFISH, SD – Strong performances in multiple events by
D'Andra Morris and
Arianna Passeri highlighted a strong opening to the outdoor season by the University of Mary women's track & field team. The Marauders captured five titles at the Yellow Jacket Spring Opener hosted by Black Hills State University.
UMary ran away with the team title, scoring 157 points to outdistance Black Hills State. The host school finished second in the ten team meet with 111 points.
Passeri, who earned 2
nd team All-American honors in the long jump at the 2022 NCAA Division II national championships, won the long jump title at the Yellow Jack Spring Opener with a mark of 5.86 meters. An NCAA qualifying mark, Passeri's effort ranks 7
th in the country. She also placed 4
th in the triple jump (10.99 meters).
Led by Passeri, UMary grabbed three of the top five places in the 100 meter dash. Passeri crossed the finish line in 12.63 seconds to finish 2
nd.
Cali Modglin was 3
rd in 12.77 seconds and
Morgan Hertz finished 5
th (13.03 seconds).
Morris had a trio of outstanding performances in the jumps. The All-American placed first in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.65 meters. The NCAA Division II indoor triple jump champion, Morris placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.71 meters in her first outing since winning the title. The senior from Kingston, Jamaica, rounded out her day with a 3
rd place finish in the long jump (5.52 meters).
Tereza Bolibruch and
Tia Horning led a dominate day in the 100 meter hurdles for the Marauders. Bolibruch ran away with the win with a time of 14.42 seconds. Horning was second in 15.28. Placing fourth was
A'Lena Chaney in 15.87 seconds.
Morgan Hertz gave the Marauders a sweep in the hurdles when she won the 400 meter hurdles. Hertz cleared the barriers in 1:03.71 to capture the event by over three seconds.
Ava Grimm blazed her way to a win in the 400 meter run. She posted a time of 58.27 seconds to win the race by over three seconds.
Grimm then claimed a runner-up finish in the 200 meter dash. She finished in 26.60 to place 2
nd. Right behind in 3
rd place was teammate
Laura Inama with a clocking of 26.86 seconds.
Modglin tied for third in the long jump at 5.52 meters. The senior was 5
th in the triple jump (10.91 meters).
Faith Dockter claimed 2
nd in the javelin. The reigning Northern Sun champion opened the season with a mark of 38.68 meters.
