BISMARCK, ND – In her final tune-up before the start of championship season,
Alyssa Becker ran away with the individual title and led the University of Mary to the team crown at the Mystics-Marauders Invite.
In the Marauders first home meet in eight years, Becker put on a show, winning the 5k race at McDowell Dam by nearly 40 seconds. Becker finished the course in just 17:28.6, well before Northern State's Jennifer Clark crossed the line in second at 18:08.2.
Andrijana Fundak also had a big day. She placed second in the field of 36 with a clocking of 18:15.1.
The Marauders had three more runners in the top 11.
Kristine Kalthoff (19:03.4) just edged teammate
Victoria Noland (19:03.7) for 9
th place.
Kiran Green (19:04.2) placed 11
th to round out the scoring as the three Marauders finished less than a second off each other's times.
Three other Marauders also placed in the top half of the race.
Ellen Moore (19:11.0) was 14
th,
Marisa Shiland (19:21.3) earned 16
th and
Teresa Blote (19:23.9) was 17
th.
The Marauders won the team title with 18 points. MSU Moorhead claimed second with 49 points and Valley City State (69) was third.
UMary now enters championship season, starting with the Northern Sun championships on November 5 in Wayne, NE.
