Marauders picked 2nd in NSIC Men's Indoor Coaches' Poll, Allen & Myers names Athletes to Watch

BURNSVILLE, MN – In the 2019-20 Northern Sun Men's Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll, the University of Mary is projected to finish in a very familiar position. The conference runner-up in 2018 and 2019 at both the indoor and outdoor NSIC championships, the Marauders are picked to finish second in the league this winter.

All-American Shenley Allen and Cory Myers were announced as the Marauders Field and Track Athletes to Watch, respectively.

The Marauders earned 105 points in the preseason poll. Eight-time defending champion Minnesota State University is projected to capture the NSIC title and garnered 121 points. Augustana picked up 101 points and is slotted third, followed by Sioux Falls, Minnesota Duluth, Concordia-St. Paul, MSU Moorhead, Northern State, Wayne State, Minot State, Southwest Minnesota State and Upper Iowa.

Allen has scored in three straight NSIC indoor championships and four straight conference championship meets overall. The senior was the NSIC runner-up in the high jump at the 2019 indoor championships before earning All-American status at the NCAA indoor championships. He followed up with a third-place finish at the outdoor conference championships last spring in the high jump before again earning NCAA All-American honors. Allen has also scored in the triple jump at the NSIC meets.

A sophomore middle distance runner, Myers is a two-time All-NSIC competitor. He helped the UMary Distance Medley Relay team to a 2nd-place finish at the 2019 indoor championships and fourth in the 4x400. Last spring Myers placed 2nd outdoors in the 800 meter run.

The Marauders return several student-athletes who placed at the 2019 indoor conference championships. Brady Erickson earned All-NSIC honors after taking second in the long jump to UMary All-American Luxon Glor, who graduated last spring. Erickson also helped the Marauders score in the 4x400 meter relay. Other returners who placed includes Kyle Cacho (long jump), Logan Myers (400, 4x400), Jared Pflipsen (pole vault), Talon Staudinger (triple jump), Ty Trainor (DMR, 600), Sam Wilke (DMR, mile) and Josh Wulfekuhle (4x400).

The Marauders open the 2019-20 season at home this weekend, hosting the Winter Festival on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the UMary Fieldhouse and Wellness Center. Field events begin at 10 am with track events starting at 11 am.
