FARGO, ND – The University of Mary men's and women's track team opened 2018 with a pair of school records and six NCAA provisional qualifying mark at the Thundering Herd Classic.
Luxon Glor produced a pair of NCAA provisional marks with his efforts in the 60 meter dash and the long jump. The junior from Winnipeg, MB, won the 60 in a time of 6.87 seconds, outpacing five NCAA Division I student-athletes in the finals.
A double winner, Glor bested the field in the long jump with a provo mark of 7.20 meters. He won the event by nine inches (.23 meters).
Competing in his first meet for the Marauders,
Josh Lamers set a school record and posted an NCAA provo time in the 60 meter hurdles. He won the meet going away with a clocking of 8.01 seconds.
Also claiming both a school record and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark was
Derek Myers. The junior placed second in the mile run with a time of 4:13.91.
Tyrell Rosencranz posted the fifth men's track & field NCAA provisional qualifying mark of the day in the long jump. The junior exploded for a top mark of 6.86 meters on his fifth attempt. Overall he placed fourth in the event, trailing only Glor and two members of the host NDSU team. Rosencranz also placed fourth in the triple jump (14.52 meters).
All-American Jaiden Schuette clocked the lone NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the UMary women's program. The junior distance runner clocked a time of 5:02.62 to place third overall. The other seven runners in the top eight compete at the NCAA Division I level.
Several other Marauders also had strong performances.
Cory Myers and
Teegan Olson finished 1-2 in the men's 800 meter run with times of 1:57.44 and 1:58.77, respectively.
Marceau Jovin claimed third in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.35 seconds.
On the women's side, Taylor Hestekin was second in the 800 meter run, posting a clocking of 2:17.52.
Nelecia Richards (1:34.58) was second and teammate Abbey Zastrow (1:40.41) placed fifth in the 600 meter run.
Nicolyn Brown qualified for the finals of the 60 meter dash and placed fifth with a time of 7.84 seconds. Julia Hammerschmidt ran the 400 meter dash in 59.84 for fifth overall.
In the field events, Ricki Lindley took fourth in the triple jump with an effort of 10.96 meters. D'Andra Morris claimed fourth in the high jump (1.59 meters).
Next up for the Marauders is the South Dakota State Jim Emmerich Invitational on January 20.
