MOORHEAD, MN – New faces continued to set the early pace for the University of Mary swimming team. Mary Catherine Williamson picked up three wins and
Luisa Garcia and
Mackenzie Houston both won individual events for the Marauders in a road dual against MSU Moorhead. The Dragons won the meet 197-97. However 36 of the MSUM points came from diving and UMary doesn't field any divers.
Williamson captured the 200 and 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. The freshman was clocked in 2:01.08 in the 200 as she won the event by 1.76 seconds. She then captured the 500 by nearly 10 seconds with her mark of 5:18.84. The Fredericksburg, VA, native claimed the 200 IM by over a second in a time of 2:13.78.
Houston claimed a narrow win in the 100 yard butterfly. The freshman from Almonte, Ontario, was clocked in 1:00.63 seconds, finishing just ahead of teammate
Abbey Zajdzinski, who posted a time of 1:01.21.
In the mile, freshman
Luisa Garcia of Mexico City, Mexico, was timed in 18:59.37, nearly five seconds faster than her closest competitor.
"I thought we had a pretty good meet today after coming off of a pretty hard week of training," said Marauders head coach
Allan McCallum. "It was encouraging to see how the women stayed aggressive in their races as they were swimming their third or fourth events of the meet. We have a couple of weeks until our next meet, allowing us time for some solid training and make some improvements before our next meet."
The Marauders return to action in Sioux Falls, SD, against the University of Sioux Falls and Augustana on Nov. 2-3.
