Marauders Show Gains at 2014 NSIC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Jordan Washington posted the best mark of the day for the University of Mary at the 2014 Northern Sun Men's Track & Field Championships and the Marauders improved one spot over last season's finish.
 
U-Mary compiled 59 team points to place sixth overall. Minnesota State rolled to the championship with 184 points to easily outdistance Augustana at 117. Sioux Falls was third with 86.5 points, followed by St. Cloud State (81), Minnesota Duluth (71), U-Mary, MSU Moorhead (30), Wayne State (29), Concordia – St. Paul (24.5), Northern State (20), Minot State (20) and Southwest Minnesota State (18).
 
Washington ran his best time of the year to place third in the 400 meter run. The junior from Katy, Texas, posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 49.76.
 
After winning a conference title on Friday in the long jump, Aaron Teigen followed with a fourth place finish in the triple jump. Saving his best efforts of the year for the NSIC championships, the senior from Rugby, N.D., travelled 45' 10.5". Right behind in fifth was Jerrod Shaffner, barely behind Teigen. The sophomore leaped a season-best 45' 10".
 
Coming off an appearance at the 2013 NCAA cross country championships, Chris Jessop placed fifth in the mile, clicking along in a time of 4:20.75.
 
In the 1,000 meter run, Nathan Inkman recorded his best time of the season, running a 2:32.75 to place fourth.
 
Two Marauders also placed in the 60 meter hurdles. Chase Smiley closed out his collegiate career in sixth, running an 8.60. Right behind was Jay Cooper in seventh (8.71).
 
Travis Gavin rounded out the Marauders scoring with an eighth place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 54' 3.25".
