DAKOTA DUAL INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Fargo, ND – Division I competition proved far from overwhelming for the University of Mary men's and women's indoor track and field teams when the Marauders opened their season at North Dakota State University's Dakota Duals.
The U-Mary men beat the University of North Dakota 63-48 and suffered a narrow 58-56 loss to NDSU. The Marauders women's squad easily turned back UND 60-52 but lost a close battle to NDSU 62-48.
“We were very pleased with our opening meet of the year,” noted
Mike Thorson, the U-Mary Director of Track and Field/Cross Country.
The men won five events on the night and the women two.
The U-Mary women's team posted three provisional national qualifying marks, with All-American
Melissa Walker accounting for two of the provos. The junior from Kingston, Jamaica, won the triple jump with an effort of 38' 1 ¼”. Walker placed second in the long jump, sailing 18' 1”.
All-American
Kathryn Stewart reached a provisional mark in the 200 meter dash. The junior sprinter covered the deuce in 25.52 to win the event.
Thomas Hartwell was a double winner for the U-Mary men. The senior captured both the long and triple jumps.
Also winning for the men was
Jordan Washington in the 400 meter dash, Dustin Reub in the high jump and
Tracy Lide in the 200 meter dash.
Following the upcoming semester break, the Marauders return to competition on January 19, 2013, at Bemidji State University.
